About the Role
Our client is a local government organisation covering the Melbourne City area. They are urgently seeking a Payroll Team Lead to come in and join their team in the Melbourne CBD on a 3 month temp contract with possible extensions.
Please note this position is urgent and has an ASAP start requirement.
Candidates for this position must have:
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a small technical team in a fast-paced, high-compliance environment.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills, with a focus on team performance and customer service excellence.
- Experience with payroll and HRIS platforms (Aurion, Chris21, SAP, or other).
As the Payroll Team Lead you will provide leadership, oversight, and continuous improvement of the organisation's payroll operations, ensuring accurate, compliant, and efficient delivery of payroll services for all employees.
This role leads a small team responsible for end-to-end payroll processing, system administration, and compliance with legislation, enterprise agreements, and internal policies.
Key responsibilities include:
Strategic Leadership and Team Management: Provide direct leadership and mentorship to the payroll team, fostering a culture of high performance and professional development while overseeing daily end-to-end payroll operations.
Compliance and Governance Oversight: Ensure all payroll activities strictly adhere to relevant legislation, enterprise agreements, and internal policies to mitigate risk and maintain legal integrity.
Process Optimization and Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of payroll delivery, driving continuous improvement in workflows and service standards.
System Administration and Data Integrity: Manage the administration of payroll systems, ensuring technical reliability, data security, and the accurate maintenance of employee records.
Financial and Operational Accuracy: Oversee the precise execution of all payroll cycles, ensuring that payments are processed on time and that complex calculations or queries are resolved efficiently.
About You
You will be an experienced Payroll Leader with proven experience and reliability in previous positions.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Immediate Availability to commence a new role
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a small technical team in a fast-paced, high-compliance environment.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills, with a focus on team performance and customer service excellence.
- Experience with payroll and HRIS platforms (Aurion, Chris21, SAP, or equivalent).
- Competence in reporting, analytics, and data-driven decision making.
